Wednesday Wonders

Nothing feels quite as good as starting the day off early with a long road trip on a bus. While the bus ride was long, it was still very enjoyable, allowing some time for the BCHigh students to socialize or just take a nap. Our first stop of the day was at a small rest stop where we could stretch our legs and buy food at Burger King or Subway for the ride ahead. After getting back on the bus we made our way to Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland.

Once we had arrived in Belfast, we made a few stops to take look at the murals scattered on various walls around the city, and the Belfast Garden of Remembrance. Then, going on both sides, we went to look at one of the peace walls separating the Catholic and Protestant citizens of Belfast, to prevent conflict. The walls are covered in graffiti saying to destroy the wall dividing them, with many people signing their names on it, even as we walked by. Soon after seeing the wall we came to the titanic museum to look around shortly, and every student went directly into the gift shop to browse. The trip to the museum was kept brief however, and we boarded back onto the bus not long after we had arrived.

In the second half of the day we went to the Dark Hedges. The Dark Hedges were used in the game of thrones series on tv as a scene. After that we went to the coast line near the cause way and saw the cliffs. We continued on to the Dunluce Castle, where we saw the remains of the Medieval castle. There was not much of the buildings left standing but it was a very interesting sight.

Giant's Causeway

We spent a majority of our time at the Giants Causeway at the end of the day. We walked all around the causeway and it was awesome sight and very cool to see. The rocks naturally formed hexagonal shapes so perfectly it’s almost hard to believe. They are made of basalt, which is formed from lava cooling very quickly. After seeing the causeway we ate the Causeway Hotel which was very fancy and almost everyone had a burger made with Irish beef. They tasted amazing and came with big wedge potato fries. We ate for about an hour, had dessert, then headed back for Dublin where we met our host families and went home.

Marvelous Monday

Going to the Wicklow Mountains was an amazing experience. The view was incredible. Even though we were not at the top, you could see so much of the mountain and fully experience its beauty. We learned so much about the history of the mountains as well as the type of land that is at the bottom of the mountains. We were able to see the areas where mining took place as well as the areas untouched which were full of trees. Unfortunately, we did not walk up them because it was very windy, but it was still an unbelievable experience overall, and I would love to revisit it someday.                                                                                                     River at the base of the m...

Terrific Thursday

Like every morning, we started off the day with breakfast, except this time in a home economics class. There were two teachers who taught us how to make Guinness brown bread and scones. After they made both to show us how, they gave us the chance to make them ourselves. We were each assigned a partner, and had our own station. We all made scones, and it was a very fun experience for the BC High boys to cook and make food that is popular in Ireland. After they were ready, we all sat down together and ate the scones we made and the brown bread with Irish smoked salmon, ham, Irish cheeses, Irish jams, clotted cream, and homemade pickles. It was a very fun and enjoyable experience for all of us.   Today we also went to the Irish Parliamentary building. There, we saw where the lower house and the upper house, or senate, meet. It was very interesting for the BC High students to see how similar the room where the Irish Parliament...
